Renting an apartment in New Jersey: a newcomer's guide
Most landlords in New Jersey ask for proof of income, a credit check and a security deposit. By state law the deposit can't be more than 1.5 months' rent, and it must be kept in a bank account in your name. No US credit history yet? Offer a larger first payment, a co-signer, or an employer letter. Always see the apartment in person and never wire money before you have signed a lease. Popular areas for the Turkish community include Paterson, Clifton, Bergen County (Fort Lee, Cliffside Park, Fairview) and Hudson County.
5 signs a listing is a scam
1. The price is far below similar listings. 2. The poster is 'out of the country' and can't show the place. 3. They ask for a deposit by gift card, wire transfer or crypto. 4. They push you to move the chat to another app right away. 5. The photos look like they came from a hotel or a magazine. See something like this? Tap Report on the listing and our team will review it.
Welcome to Amerikaİlanlar
For years the Turkish community in America has shared apartments, jobs and services through WhatsApp groups and Facebook posts that disappear in a day. Amerikaİlanlar puts them in one searchable place, in Turkish and English, with every listing checked by a real person.
